[Olsr-users] olsrd taking long time to start up

there might be some errors that cause some delays (as they print error
messages on stdout at startup),.. but if u do not have 10 interfaces olsrd
should run on, it will never need 5 minutes,..

btw. what is your interpretation of olsrd startup finished:
that olsrd sends out its first packet, or that "all" routes are established
?

to debug this try to do similar in your etc/init.d/olsrd

replace olsrd [xyz]

with

date > /tmp/olsrd.log
olsrd [xyz] -nofork > /tmp/olsrd.log 2>&1

but you should kill this olsrd (and review the logfile) until it used up all
of your /tmp storage space (i.e. probably your routers memory)
