[OLSR-users] OLSR and WDS

Hi All,

this is a trick-question, sort of. :-)

Can APs running olsrd be connected to non-olsr-APs via WDS?

The idea is this: a network of olsr-APs could in theory be extended with
APs that you happen to have lying around, but which cannot be extended
to run olsrd, like Medion MD40900, Siemens AP-600, Fritzbox.
The network will usually be using AdHoc, not managed mode. (I am using
"Freifunk", see http://www.freifunk.net. This is a working city-wide
peer to peer AdHoc network offering public internet-access.)

Scenario 1:
assume an AP that allows AdHoc but not olsrd. Can 2 AdHoc-APs be
connected via WDS? Maybe using 'wl' or maybe using web-interface-setup?

Scenario 2:
assume an AP that allows only managed mode and no olsrd. Can this AP be
connected to a AP running olsrd, like for example a WRT54g with
freifunk-OpenWRT Firmware?

I tested olsrd on a Fritzbox in managed mode, and connected the FB to 2
other APs, also in managed mode. olsr seems to work, connected PCs find
the nodes. But: this is of no real use, unless at least one AP runs
AdHoc and can connect to other freifunk-APs.

THX, Stefan
