Regardless the PID stuff you are having problems with, I just wanted to
remind you that the RPM-package that I have created already have a
startup-script for Red Hat alike distributions (Fedora/Red Hat is tested
and works).

This probably wouldn't help you if you are creating a startup script for
an incompatible or embedded distros, but I just wanted you to know about
this option.
