Yes, OLSRd1 didn't used multicast but went for broadcasts, either
network wide broadcast or global broadcast. Both have their own problems.

I hope that the future of IP mesh networks is linklocal IPv4/6 addresses
on the interfaces and only one mesh-wide global IPv4/6 address on the
loopback interface.

Did you had a look at the wiki link I sent you? As long as you have no
IP connectivity between direct neighbors there is nothing OLSRd(2) can
do for you.
