Thanks.I will try tcpdump and check the behavior.
However when I did ping to my broadcast address, is it not supposed to broadcast this ping ?
Even for local broadcast ping it did not return anything.
Please tell what could the reason.

just run a tcpdump on the receiver side if you see the incoming icmp requests
from the tap interface. Normally you don't get an answer to a multicast ping.
