Yes, imho, because as you pointed out, you can statically hardset the cell 
with madwifi ("ap" option of iwconfig). I also do not have problem with 
madwifi as in openwrt 7.09

Also, madwifi developement is open and continuied (athk5), hence adaptable and 
a bit more safe for future use.
