jup!

At funkfeuer.at (the "freifunk" network in Austria) we also employ a
5GHz backbone ring around the city in order to simply transport the
available bandwidth to the mesh users. Works fine! You are probably on
the right track here.
Especially since we have 19 channels in the 5GHz range.
