[OLSR-users] internal interface index still needed in 0.5.0??

Hello all,
reading the olsrd-0.5.0 sources I started to wonder whether the internal interface index is still used in a meaningful manner. It get's assigned counting up in the config parser. The only real use of this number seems to be the comparison in process_routes.c:olsr_find_up_route where it ends up in the interface if_nr member. There it seems to me that the operating systems real interface index would be equally valid.
Am I missing something or is this something left over from older versions?

Joerg
