from the wiki page:
Wireless throughput is cut approximately in half for each WDS  
repeating "hop", i.e. an AP that data flows through before hitting  
the wired network. This is because all transmissions use the same  
channel and radio and must be retransmitted to reach the wired LAN.

i'm no wds expert either but if i recall it correctly the wds is sort  
of a really dumb system. the algorithm for a wds node is something  
like "retransmit everything i receive except the stuff i sent  
already". this might be feasible for broadcasting but an olsr-network  
will not work, because all udp broadcasts from all nodes would be  
seen by all other nodes.

i might be wrong, perhaps you just have to test it.
