Andrew,

you may need to RTFM on http://openwrt.org/ . In contrast to openwrt the FFF 
will insist on boot_wait=on (first action in /etc/preinit). It's really not 
too easy to brick that device and you always have the Failsafe mode (Press 
reset key 1-2 secs after poweron, release if DMZ flashes irregulary, telnet 
192.168.1.1).

If nothing works: Attach serial cable (115kbaud) or Attach JTAG cable (need 
jtag-software "hairydaymed" to zero nvram) or do the "Short pins trick" (in 
that order).
