Thanks Ferry, can you say something about your usecase?
Isn't it overcomplicated? The configured *wired* interfaces
are not "expensive" when talking about traffic. The only thing
you safe are mid-entries in the network for down but configured
interfaces. Is this what you intend?

One problem i see is, that the up or downstate can not be
retrieved for switches with several ports. this is a known
issue for OpenWrt, e.g.:

WAN    | LAN LAN LAN LAN
eth0.2 | eth0.1

where all the LAN-ports are eth0.1 (bloody typcial...)
