Let me give you a real world example from the community wifi networks  
over here :)

We once had a *very* angry person from Funkfeuer Weinviertel. He was  
after many talks blocked because he was abusing the capacity of the  
network massively with p2p traffic and he would not stop.
And that cost Funkfeuer Weinviertel real money.
Well, needless to say, that person got into some revenge mode. I won't  
disclose what happened, but actually it was pretty bad for the network.

So it does not even need to be a military opponent sometimes. :)

But IMHO you have some very good points in your post concerning the  
community wifi mesh perspective.
