W/r/t to Network Manager, I do know that the version of OLSRd packaged into the commotion-mesh-applet (developed by OTI) has a dependent package called nm-dispatcher-olsrd, specifically to help Network Manager come to terms with OLSRd.

Here are the repo and recent binaries for nm-dispatcher-olsrd, if you would like to review.
https://github.com/opentechinstitute/nm-dispatcher-olsrd
Problems might have to do with IBSS, when isolated (no other node to form IBSS).
Older drivers fill syslog with warnings in such cases. Maybe new driver has increased level of annoyance.
